How much does a home renovation cost?

Home renovation by IG Constructions

The cost of renovating a home depends on many different factors. The final amount you will need to spend depends on the type and extent of the works to be completed, the location and size of the home, and the professionals you will need.

As a general rule, the various factors that affect the cost of a home renovation and the unforeseen situations that may arise during repairs make it impossible to calculate the price exactly. The renovation cost per square metre varies from case to case, but for an average home it is usually around €140 per square metre.

The cost of a home renovation depends largely on the following factors:

  • The age of the property and, by extension, the works required,
  • The kind of result you are looking for,
  • The total square metres of the property,
  • The type and quality of the materials you want to use,
  • Obtaining planning permits, if required

As you can see, you can spend less money, or you can choose to invest much more if you wish. An experienced engineer can guide you so you know the cost and scope of the works, as well as other details about the renovation.

How your quote is put together

If your property needs a partial or full renovation, a specific process should be followed. Under it, the engineer will carry out a study from which the final cost will emerge. The process is as follows:

  1. An engineer will visit your property to determine the renovation needs. The final cost per square metre is affected by the condition of the property.
  2. You will talk to your engineer to describe your vision. At this stage you should explain the problems you face in your home and how you imagine the result. You should also say how much money you are able to spend on the project.
  3. The engineer will study and examine every room in the home and take detailed notes of all room dimensions.
  4. After visiting the property, the engineer will draw up a report detailing the works required, the materials to be used and the measurements of each room.
  5. Once the study and the architectural design for your home are complete, you will receive a copy to review and approve. If you agree with the budgeted amount and the design, the renovation works will begin.

The renovation cost per square metre is hard to pin down precisely. The works carried out in each home and the materials used play a decisive role in the final amount. Together we can create a home that meets your needs both now and in the future. Our team will guide you through every stage of the project, so you are never surprised by hidden costs or sudden changes and we reach the result that satisfies you most.
