Electrical Repairs & Renovation

Do you have an electrical fault in your apartment and need a technician?
IG Constructions has a wide network of electricians across the whole Attica basin and can serve you in every area of Athens.

What are the most common electrical faults in a home or commercial space?
1. Blown or faulty fuse
When part of the home has no power but all the fuses are in place and no breaker has tripped, the faulty or burnt component – either in the electricity meter or in the distribution board – needs replacing. What should we do?
First, check the main distribution board and see whether all the breakers are switched on.
Make sure the common areas (the building's main stairwell) or the street where the property is located have power.
Check whether there is a power cut by the electricity provider – call 11500 (DEI) to confirm whether work is being carried out in your area that is also cutting power to your home.
Call an electrician to visit and investigate/repair the fault.
2. Faulty socket
With age and daily use, the sockets and switches in our home loosen and stop working. Sparks can also occur when plugging in an appliance, which can even cause a fire. In this case, call an electrician and have the socket replaced.
3. Faulty light fitting
A fault in a light fitting can show up as overheating or flickering. It may be very simple and solved by tightening a bulb, or very serious and even caused by a short circuit.
4. Water heater
You switch on the breaker for the water heater, but the water doesn't heat up. If the indicator light comes on but the water still doesn't heat, the thermostat or the heating element is probably faulty.
Check whether there is a power cut by DEI – call 11500 to confirm whether work is being carried out in your area that is also cutting power to your home.
Call an electrician to visit and investigate/repair the fault.
5. Distribution board fault
There is no power anywhere in the home. This alone suggests a serious problem – the main breaker has probably tripped. If there is a burning smell from the main distribution board, a component has most likely short-circuited or worn out, and you should call an electrician immediately.
Whichever of the above applies to you, you can call us 24 hours a day and a certified professional electrician in Athens will contact you, visit your premises anywhere in the Attica basin by appointment and fix the fault.
Electrical renovation
Before making any changes to your home's electrical installation, you should first settle on a plan so you know where the new distribution board, the sockets and the phone points will go. This saves both money and time on unnecessary chasing of walls, materials and repairs (filling in chases, etc.).
What materials are used in an electrical renovation?
- Recessed plastic conduits of various diameters
- Junction and switch boxes
- Cables (NYA, NYM, NYY, etc.)
- Sockets
- Single and double switches, two-way switches, sockets
- Distribution board enclosure
- 16A circuit breakers, main switch, residual-current device.
What can an electrical installation include?
- Alarm installation: motion detectors on windows and doors, keypad and indoor/outdoor siren.
- New heavy-duty power lines for the cooker and air-conditioning units
- Internet and telephone installation
- Wiring for light fittings, sockets and switches
- A new distribution board.
How long does an electrical renovation take?
The table below gives an indicative timeline for the electrical installation of an 80 m² apartment:
| No. | Task | Duration |
| 1. | Study and design of the electrical installation | 2 days |
| 2. | Chasing the walls | 2 days |
| 3. | Laying conduits and cables | 2 days |
| 4. | Installing the distribution board | 1 day |
| 5. | Fitting sockets and switches | 1 day |
Finally, after the home renovation, the electrician issues an installer's declaration certifying the soundness of the installation and the materials used. This certificate is required before any new building can be connected to the grid or before the electricity account of an existing property can be transferred to a new name.
