Babis and Ioanna asked us to carry out a complete renovation of their maisonette in Piraeus. The home occupies the second and third floors of a building constructed in the 1970s and has a total area of 160 m².

Because of its age, the home showed wear and damage to its permanent installations. Specifically, the water-supply and drainage networks – made of iron pipes and lead fittings respectively – had corroded, and the sanitary ware and wooden kitchen cabinets were worn.

Originally, the first level of the maisonette had a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom, while the second level had three bedrooms and a bathroom. After deciding on a new architectural design, the home was reconfigured: the bedrooms moved to the second-floor level and the kitchen and living room to the third floor, while the bathrooms stayed in their original positions. The building works carried out on the maisonette as part of its renovation were the following:

• The interior walls of the third floor were demolished, creating an open-plan kitchen–living room
• The bathrooms on both levels were completely stripped out
• The floor tiles, kitchen cabinets and wooden bedroom wardrobes were removed
• Debris was removed via special chutes into skips
• New walls were built on the second-floor level, creating four bedrooms
• The electrical installation was replaced
• A new plumbing installation was fitted, with a copper water-supply network and PVC drainage pipes
• A new cement screed was laid and new floor tiles installed
• Two triplex glass panels were made and installed in the bathrooms
• The sanitary ware was replaced
• New wardrobes and a new kitchen were built, and new laminate interior doors fitted
• New Iroko wood stair treads and new metal railings were installed on the maisonette's internal staircase
• The home was painted with branded eco-friendly paints.
