Nikos owns a 70 m² apartment on the first floor of a two-family house in Peristeri, Attica. The building was constructed in the 1960s and had never been renovated.
The apartment had a separate kitchen, a living/dining room, one bedroom and a bathroom. After discussions with the owner, it was decided to turn the kitchen into a second bedroom and move the kitchen into the open-plan dining/living area. The works carried out included:
- The bathroom and kitchen were stripped out
- The wall between the dining room and the living room was demolished
- The old wooden wardrobe in the bedroom was removed.
- The old plumbing and electrical installation of the apartment was removed
- A new water-supply and drainage network was installed in the bathroom and the new kitchen location
- A new heating network was installed and connected to an individual natural-gas boiler
- A dual-energy solar water heater was installed on the roof of the building
- A new electrical installation was carried out and the distribution board replaced
- External thermal insulation (ETICS) was applied to the outer walls, and the roof above the apartment was re-waterproofed
- The wooden external window frames were replaced with new thermal-break aluminium frames
- New wardrobes and new wooden kitchen cabinets were built
- A security door with aluminium cladding was fitted
- New floor tiles were laid
- The apartment was skimmed and painted with branded eco-friendly paints.
